The Fort St. John Visitor Centre will be kicking off 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Town'Week for 2006 (as part of National Tourism Week in Canada) with a BBQ on Sunday, June 4 from to . The BBQ will be held at the Visitor Centre on 100 Street and this year, we have partnered with the SPCA, so all proceeds from the event will go to the local animal shelter.
The purpose of this special week of events is to draw attention to all the services the Visitor Centre has to offer to locals and visitors alike, and also to encourage local residents to get out and enjoy all the great attractions and events the area has to offer. To help people enjoy some of the local attractions, we will be giving out passes to the Fireplace Ceramic Studio, the FortSt. John - NorthPeaceMuseum, the North Peace Leisure Pool, and the new Barnyard Petting Zoo in Farmington.
In addition to all that we will also be hosting the following:
Monday, June 5: Open House - If you missed the BBQ, stop by for some light refreshments and check out the Visitor Centre anytime Monday.
Tuesday, June 6: Locals Only Prize Day Listen to Moose FM for your chance to win prize packages to help you enjoy FortSt. John.
Wednesday, June 7: Plan your BC Vacation Day Stop in to have one of our travel professionals help you plan out your summer vacation and for the chance to win hotel vouchers for other cities in BC!
Thursday, June 8: Fireplace Ceramic Studio Take a break for something creative! Stop by the Fireplace on 98A Avenue to paint some ceramics and then take it home after it has been fired in their kiln.
Friday, June 9: History Day Enjoy some local history by stopping by the FortSt. John NorthPeaceMuseum and learn about our area from some very knowledgeable volunteers.
Saturday, June 10: Tacky Tourist Day Dress up as a tacky tourist and stop in at the Visitor Centre for a chance to win a prize!
There will be prize draws all week long, as well as a kids colouring contest, so please stop by and check it out!
